Book Review - Sunflower Forest

Good evening friends,
It's that time of the week again... it's book time!
I read this book a while ago but still remember it, which I guess is saying something. I remember giving up on it the first time but having to read it out of lack of books! Sunflower Forest by Torey Hayden is a strange one, and I know it's definitely not for everyone, but those of you that decide to give it a go... well done! Just keep reading, it gets easier to read as it goes on and in my opinion better! This book is about a daughter trying to grow up in a family filled with sadness, at the beginning it will be confusing but all will become clear!

Hope you had good week and are looking forward to the weekend, are you doing anything nice?!

Book Review- The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

Happy Friday!
This week I've just started to read The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, having only just started reading it I'm already enjoying it although I am a bit confused, but hopefully it will all become clear! I'm told it's a little like Twilight, so I'm looking forward to reading the rest. The start, is a bit weird and may take some of you a while to get into but it does get better!

Have you been enjoying any books lately, if so please comment down below, I'm always looking for new books to read!

Hope you have a nice weekend,

Long Time No Talk!

Good evening everyone,
Now I'm sorry that I haven't written in a long time... just been so busy! I have definitely  been enjoying the long evenings of summer, just wish it would stay warm! I'm off on holiday in a few weeks, and I can't wait! Have you got a holiday planned?

Ok, so on today.

I recently watched the film 'We Bought a Zoo' ok don't tell me I know that I'm a bit behind on that! But that's not the point, if you've seen the film, you may remember that part of the film focusses on having 20 seconds of courage. Now I've been thinking how different the world would be if at a certain time in the day, you had 20 seconds dedicated to saying something or doing something that requires courage. People may be more open and things may be said that perhaps wouldn't be said otherwise, people would know how people actually feel, what people actually want and what people actually need to say. I was just thinking that if we all just had a little more courage then things might just be a little easier... maybe! On the other hand, the world might just collapse into itself, if people actually knew what we were thinking, then they might not like some of us! It was just a thought!

Book Review-Paper Aeroplanes

Hello friends,
This week I've been reading Paper Aeroplanes by Dawn O'Porter.
I've only just finished it but loved it! A book about friendship, Dawn O'Porter has really captured the feelings of a real teenager. An un-expected joy to read but I would recommend it to anyone!

I hope you've all had a good week, and have a great weekend!

Tips for Packing

Hello dear friends,
I am lucky enough to be able to travel and have been to a fair few places, so I realise how difficult it may be to pack, so voila, here I bring you my tips for packing.

1. Don't overpack! Think carefully about your clothes and make sure that everything you pack goes well together, therefore you will have more outfits than you think!

2. Think about the weather! Just because wherever you are going is thought to be hot, don't get your hopes up! Pack layers; that's my advice!

3. The length of time you're going for depends on what you pack, of course. If you're only going for a short trip, pack little bottles of your products, such as shampoo, then you can save space for more clothes!

4. Remember the essentials! Whilst thinking about the stuff in the middle it can be easy to forget the most important things. I'm not just talking about your passport, but all of things that you use on a daily basis... don't forget them!

5. Don't leave it too late! Leaving packing until the night before is never a good idea, what if you've run out of something or you need to do some washing?! You won't have time. So avoid the rush and start listing what you want to take, at least a week before.

There we go, my tips to packing; I hope that this has helped... are you going away somewhere soon?

Friendship?

Hello dear friends,
There are 3 rules of shopping that you must ask yourself before purchasing; "Do you really want it?" "Do you really need it?" and "Can you afford it?" If the answer is no to any of the questions than you don't buy it! I think that there should be rules, like this, for friendship. It's a tricky thing that if you don't get right, can cause a whole lot of tears.
Recently I have learnt that you must pick wisely when it comes to your friends, because those are the people that at the end of the day have chosen to love you, not forced to, and if they don't, they're not worth it.  By simply asking yourself my 3 simple questions, you could stop yourself from trying to make something work that just isn't meant to. So here goes:

1. What do they do that makes you feel better about yourself?

2. Would they go out of their way for you?

3. Could you spend a week without talking to them, without feeling lost?

If you can't answer these questions with a meaningful answer then just let it go, you'll probably be better off without them.
I found a quote the other day, that really opened my eyes to who I should be surrounding myself with;
"Don't Dwell on those who let you down, Cherish those who hold you up."

I really hope that you are happy and have in someway benefited from my 3 simple questions.

April Favourites

Good evening to you all,
I thought today I would tell you what I've been loving this month. It is insane how quickly this month has gone and I can't believe that it is already May!
I've been loving a fair few things this month, so I cut it down to a top five.

Firstly, I have been completely loving the Soap and Glory Whipped Clean Shower Butter. There's not much to say about it except for it does what it says on the tin! Moisturises and cleans... all in one!

I have also loved this month the Britney Spears Fantasy perfume. Anyone that knows me will know this scent well. I wear it everyday and I still love it. I'm not sure that you can describe a scent but I think it's quite sweet with vanilla accents.

My Vans, now let me just tell you, I have had them since christmas, but it was in these past few months that I've really started to enjoy them. They're so comfortable and they go with everything.

Incense, I was having a spring clean the other day, and decided to light some; I'd forgotten just how must I love this smell!

On to TV programs now, there are two but both have already finished;   Poldark and Banished. I'm not really sure what to say other than go and watch them on catch up!

Thanks for reading! Please comment what you've been loving this month, I'd love to hear it!

A New Member of the Family

Good afternoon, dear friends
As some of you may know we, as a family, have been in search of a Fox Terrier puppy for a few months and finally we have found the one!
We brought home Wallace yesterday night and already he has adapted well to his new home. He is full of bundles and joy, and at eight weeks he is already beautiful.  We have had no visitors yet but I'm sure it won't be long!
I have been thinking and thinking about this for ages and I am so happy now that it has finally happened. Wallace is being extremely good and even as I type he is sat asleep in his bed.
We've never had a puppy and I am new to it, so if you have any advice please comment!

Just two quotes :)

Dear friends,

On the lead up to my exams, I reminded myself of a quote that I think is by Petal. I don't know why it sprung to mind but I just kept reminding myself of it. I think that everyone needs to be reminded that not everything will turn out well the first time! And you will fail at some point but if you pick yourself up, and start again you are sure to succeed at something. You've just got to find you sparkle.

I do love a good quote but I have to say that despite how much I try to live by them, I find it impossible, however in someway I think they help.

Even on those dreary, rainy, overall rubbish days I think that I do always smile... even if it's just the once! I have a picture and quote wall in my bedroom, and one of the quotes that is strung by my bed states that life is always better when your laughing. Even if it's just at yourself... just laugh!
I'm lucky enough to have the friends, that will always manage to make me laugh, whether it's deliberate or not!

That's all for today! Please comment below ;)

A Birthday To Remember!

Hello everyone,
It is definitely summer, and I am happy!
I haven't quite managed to sort out my blog design but I just wanted to write a post... it's been a while. Please do comment on the blog design so far!

The Alps!
During the Easter holidays it was my mother's birthday, and as a treat and surprise my Father organised a trip to Milan, Italy, for five days. To my Mother it was an amazing surprise and to me it was one of my favourite trips so far.

We flew from Paris to Milan, and despite being in a bit of a rush, my Mother was pleasantly surprised. We arrived in Milan, and it was the perfect welcome, the sun was shining and the sunglasses came out! My Father had managed to book an amazing hotel, right in the centre and not for an extortionate price.
Anyway I'm not going to tell you the whole day to day story as that would be boring and no-one would read it! Instead I'll just outline the main attractions.

The Duomo!
The View!
1. The Duomo- WOW! It's a definite must see and going up onto the roof is not to miss. At the little price of €4.00 for a child walking, it is the most extraordinary view, the best, I think, I have seen yet. As we visited in Easter, it wasn't too busy and it was perfect.

The Boxes

2. Teatro alla Scala- The main surprise for my Mother was a good one. As some of you may know my Mother is a music teacher and so of course loves her music. The plan was, to go to the opera at La Scala, however it is not yet opera season, so the ballet had to do! It was incredible, and I loved every second. My father managed to book a box seat and you could see the joy in my Mother's eyes. If you wish to visit La Scala, book tickets, as they do of course sell out quickly.

The rooftops of The Duomo

3. Just the little quirky streets- Just walking around, was fantastic. The architecture was amazing and there were many photo opportunities!

A Tram.

I thought that my Father had really pulled out all of the stops, and I'm very impressed that he managed to plan it all himself. Well done Dad! I just hope that my Mother enjoyed it as much as I did. I can only hope that one day, I will have found someone, like my Father, who would do that much for me, just for a birthday! Milan was the only city that I have visited, that I thought I could live it, and that's saying something!

10 Years time...

Good Evening,
I've had quite a thoughtful week, wondering about where I will be in 10 years time, and where some of my class mates will be.

By then I will be 25 years old, I hope to have finished university by then but as I have no idea what I want to do, I can't possibly tell.
I know for a fact that some of my friends want to have had children by then, but for me that is never going to happen. Of course I would like children but not until by late twenties... at least!
I want to travel, so desperately and wish I could take off now! I know plenty of people that have ended up moving to another country to live, and I do wonder if I will join the club.

In 10 years time, will I see the popular girl, who never did any work, in a supermarket, working at the tills? It's just a question that I do ask myself.
In America, I am aware that some high schools hold reunions, I would just like to know where the people that I spent 5 years of my life with, ended up.. did they do well for themselves?

I look around the classroom sometimes and think that, what if someone sitting three seats away from me, will become famous. Will I see them on the TV and think to myself " I'm sure I know her?"

I'm not stupid, I know that the inevitable will probably happen and I won't keep in touch with most of my 'now' friends, however it doesn't stop me wondering where they'll be and whether they would have succeeded in what they wanted to do and be. I just hope that I will some how know that they're happy.
I know that I will make new friends and I do think about who they'll be and where they are now... does that make me weird?

I don't really know where I was going with this post but it's just been on my mind! I don't know if it's just me that thinks about things the way that I do!

DIY Wall Hanging/ Throw

Good evening,
The days are beginning to feel warmer, and you have no idea how happy that makes me! I have been waiting patiently but have not been too successful!

Right then on to today. I'm going to do something a bit different from my usual blabbing posts... a tutorial.
Now I am, I think, by nature quite a creative person and I did once consider becoming an interior designer, until I realised I would have to do what the client wanted, so that was out of the picture!
I looked around for a while, to purchase throw/ Wall hanging but never quite found what I was looking for so I decided to make my own.

Equipment

Polycotton - Depending on how large you want your throw to be... I used 2 metres.

Fabric paint- I went for white but any colour will be acceptable.

Sponge

Cardboard

Sewing Machine

Craft Knife

Method

1. Hem the edges, to neaten using a sewing machine (optional)

2. Choose your design, and print a copy in the correct size... to start with keep it simple (you will need to cut it out later)

3. Trace your design onto a piece of thin cardboard (cereal box)

4. Using a craft knife cut out the interior of you design... this will be where the paint will print. Leave a border around it.

5. Lay out your fabric after ironing (with newspaper underneath)

6. Place your stencil, on fabric, and whilst holding it, sponge the paint in the space. If it moves and smudges use something to hold it down, around the edges, ( I used a bottomless tart tin)

7. Allow to dry once you have covered the fabric, to the desired effect.

8. And ta, da!

I hope this works! If you have any questions, please ask in the comments.
Finished!

International Day of Happiness

Good evening,

Happiness, I think, makes the world go round. I asked my friends recently whether they think I'm a smiley person, the verdict was YES! I want to put a smile on someone's face everyday and I believe that I do. For some reason people find me funny, but I'm not sure whether they laugh with me or at me... but either way I make them smile.

International Day of Happiness is coming up and I wanted to write about the little things in my life that make me happy, and maybe it would jog your memory as to what makes you happy.

I never intended to be someone who thought that the internet was their happy place, and I don't think that it is, but writing, here on this blog, brings a smile to my face and I don't care that only a very, very small amount of people read it. I love the creativeness of sitting at my laptop and just trying, I never re-read any of my writing before it's finished, and I love that that I can hear it all in my mind and most often than not I'm speaking as I type. I love it and thank you for allowing me to do this, before I was just a bored teenager.

MUSIC! It always brings, without fail, a smile to face. Not just because I enjoy listening to it but how much fun the artist must of had, I want to be able, one day, to find that kind of joy out of making my own music, but I am afraid of failure, much like everyone else. I strongly believe that music has a power, I wrote a whole post in it so go head and check it out!

Holidays. I love travelling and I want more than anything to travel the world. Holidays are the times that I spend with my family, yes, after six weeks I can't wait to get away from them, but I love them to bits and I'm scared of the day that I move out... I'm on my own then. Anyway for the time being I'm just going to savour what time I have with them.

Summer, I know it's a cliche but sunsets, and warm days they just make me happy. Not only do I love the weather but the season just allows for so many more things to happen - days out to the beach with friends or an evening walk with the dog.

I wanted to just remind myself that I have so many things that I'm grateful for and so many things that I didn't even realise make me happy. Please tell me the little things in your life that make you happy.

A mini project

Good evening dear readers,
Can you feel its nearly spring? I've been waiting and waiting, I am so bored of the english weather!
There's just something about the summer that instantly lightens my mood. My friends agree, I'm definitely happier during the summer months!

My friends are the only people that I can truly trust and I love them dearly, I have to say they do get on my nerves sometimes but I love them all the same. I think that without them, I'd be a different person. They know what mood I'm in the second they see me and I can do the same for them. It's funny when you think about it, that you can know someone so well that you know how to behave around them. I love my girlie sleepovers, after them I feel refreshed and that I can go on another week!

Time eventually will break us apart but for the time being I am going to savour ever moment that we have together. For instance as the warmer days are fast approaching I have set myself some spring/summer goals:

1. Do more, go places, see different things.
2. Take more pictures.
3. Make a scrapbook.
4. Be outside and enjoy it!
5. Try not to do nothing!

A scrapbook. A simple idea that will protect your memories forever. My best friend and I are going to give each other a scrapbook and try to fill it by the end of the summer. As I go away for the summer with my family, we thought that it will mean that we don't miss a single moment together. When we come together at the end of the summer, we will reminisce over the events of the summer.
I love the idea of taking a picture every day, no matter what it is, just to capture a moment but I mean who can actually remember to pick up the camera as you rush out of the door!

I'm going to start this mini project on the 1st April, so during Easter. I'm not sure if I'll manage to complete it but it's worth a try!

Growing Up :(

When you started school, no-one had a clue what they wanted to be when they grew up, but now everyone just automatically assumes that we all have it figured out. I'm fifteen years old, year ten, and have no idea what to do when I'm older. I don't want to have to decide! I want to remain in school, not have to make any important decisions. It just feels like everything is moving so fast. We're already in March, and soon the school year will come to a close and year eleven will be here... the important year!

I like many other teenagers in my situtation get confused and freaked out when I think too much. The other day I worked out that at the end of the next, school, year I will be taking eighteen exams! Eighteen!
I am not good when it comes to anything that puts me under pressure,  but I don't however suffer from anxiety. I chose the subjects I am studying because I was interested in them, not because they had a low exam percentage, come to think of it I probably should have thought that through. Even though I have picked subjects I wanted to take, there's still those core subjects to get through... the worst ones in my opinion!

Soon I have end of year exams and right now I am in no position to take them. I don't know when to start revising or even how. To be honest I think I'm just stalling, I mean come on who actually finds joy in sitting at a desk reading and writing things that you have no interest in.

I wrote this post today in search of help. Any one out there that thinks that have the tiniest piece of advise to give me.. please do.

Thanks
Floss xoxo

February Favourites

Good evening my dear readers, since its the beginning of March, I thought I'd share with you my favourites from February.  Most of the products mentioned in this post I received for my birthday, so I'm unsure of the prices. This is my first favourites post, so  bear with me!

1. NYC, Smooth Skin Foundation. I purchased this foundation whilst on holiday in America, in CVS. I believe it cost me under $5, and I was surprised at how impressed I was with it. Its not cakey, but still gives good coverage and it doesn't make me look to shiney.

2. Simple, Kind to skin moisturising facial wash. I've been a firm fan of Simple for years and recently re-discovered my collection. I used this face wash every day in February and I noticed a difference in the feel of my skin, it definitely made my skin feel softer and cleared up most of my spots. Would recommend to anyone.

3. Heart-shaped photo frame. I was given this as a gift for my birthday, so unfortunately I am not sure of the price or where you can buy it but I really love the shape and size. It looks perfect on my desk!

4. Three lanterns, bought from Myakka; available online. These lanterns are so pretty and look amazing with a tea light flickering inside. They come in a pack of three, blue, red and pink, and they look great in my room, lined up on a shelf.

5.  Blue dream catcher, also giving to me for my birthday. Its quite small but I love it, especially hanging from a hook from the ceiling.

6. Tangle Tamer, available from Boots. I opened this for my birthday after asking for a tangle teezer, but I was pleasantly surprised when I used it. My hair is always so knotty and takes a long time to brush, but using this brush has halved the time it takes to brush it.

7. P.S. Love... Primark brand. 8 Shade Day Eyeshadow palette. I was in Primark the other day, and saw this. The colours are nice and subtle and wearing them is no difficulty. I purchased this at £2.50 and although I have only used a few colours, I love it already. Also available is a night palette, which would be perfect for a night out!

8. Wall Hanging/ Throw. I love this so much, it is the perfect colour for my room. Again I was giving it for my birthday so I don't know where it was purchased. I have used it on the wall  but it would also work as a throw on the sofa.

Music
1. Avicii- The Nights.
2. Taylor Swift- 1989
3. Dan and Shay- Where it all Began.

TV
1. Death in Paradise - I loved it whilst it was on but unfortunately its now finished :(
2. 2 Broke Girls.

I hope you enjoyed this post, its a bit different from my normal posts but it reminded me of my favourites last month and I enjoyed writing it. Please feel free to comment on your favourites and the moment.

"THIS GIRL CAN!"

I saw recently on the television an advert, for the "This Girl Can" campaign and thought to myself that that's the kind of advertising that a teenage girl, such as myself, should be exposed to. The amount of images I see daily telling me how I should look, whether its in a glossy magazine or on the television, is staggering.  No wonder so many people are so insecure about their bodies.

I'm no confident, striving girl myself but I won't change who I am for anyone, and I think that that's what every girl should be being taught. Every girl should feel that they can be whatever they want, be who they want and dress how they want to look not how some model, who don't get me wrong are beautiful, tells them to.

Not everyone has the same body shape and its knowing how to look your best to suit your body shape, don't change yourself... its who you are.
Finding your own style these days is so hard. Your afraid you'll be judged by people who don't even know you! Its ridiculous. I think that being yourself is a great motto but I'm finding it hard to be true to it, especially when I have adverts being shoved in my face convincing me that thats not how I should be.

My favourite quote states "Be yourself because those that mind don't matter nd those that matter don't mind" I think that this quote is hard to live by. I mean there are so many people everywhere that you want to impress but at the same time you are sure that they're judging you. To be honest, lets face it, most of them probably are. We all look at people on the bus or on the pavement and think to ourselves "What are they wearing?" but its learning to get past all the haters and everyone that may think that who you are is wrong. As long as you're happy then nothing else should matter.

Thanks for reading and the very few that are out there, please tell me your thoughts in the comments.

The Power of MUSIC!!!

There's a book that my Mum read called "The Music Miracle." which describes and explains what music can do. Did you know a child that learns to play an instrument before the age of seven will be more academically able than one which didn't?!
So it is scientifically proven that music has an affect. This is why I believe so strongly that music can do anything as long as you let it.
I, in the summer, attended a music course which explained different career choices available within music. One choice the leader described was music therapy, he showed a video in which an old man comes out of his shell. It began with him being silent and distant, then someone gave him headphone attached to an iPod playing his favourite music. He is then " restored to himself!"
This is how music can have an affect.

Click for the Youtube video

What's the first thing you do when you feel down or have had a really bad day? I put on music that will make me happier, something that will make me dance! This never fails to put a smile on my face and instantly lifts the cloud that had been looming over my head.
In the car what do you listen to? MUSIC! Its something to keep you company whilst you drive. Some pieces will remind you of a memory, like, that time you danced in your bedroom singing into your hairbrush and your Mum walked in! Others will immediately make you sing along at the top of your voice and you won't care about the weird looks that people are giving you. And one or two will make you think deeply about anything and everything.
That's what music can do. And lastly on my list, one piece of music will make a mother beam with pride as her little boy stands up on that stage.
Music does and can do so many things, that's just the power of music! Give it a chance... let it help!

Hit A Brick Wall?

Like a lot of bloggers I get stuck, don't know what to write, so to help myself, fellow bloggers and also for people that have just generally lost all motivation and inspiration, I'm gonna give you all some tips!

Firstly don't panic! It'll come to you eventually, just don't become anxious because that's not gonna help anyone. When I've hit a wall I just go and do something else, this takes my mind of it and just like that hey presto! I've got it, ideas will come to you when your least expecting it. Normally I'll put some music on, have a little dance, then I go back to what I've been trying to do, or I even just sleep on it and generally by morning I've got it! But what you must do is write it down, because what's even more frustrating is getting the answer and just as soon as it pops into your head its out again. I have a little notebook from Paperchase that I carry round every where... just in case.

Pinterest is a great place to get inspiration, just browsing through will always give me an idea about something. Also for those fellow bloggers, go and have a look at other blogs, they might give you an idea...but don't copy!
If your finding it really hard to get motivated, whether your trying to loose weight or get fitter and you can't seem to go out in the rain for that run, think back to what made you want to become fitter or lighter... it might be because you want that bikini body or you just want to improve your health, keeping your goal in your mind is one of the most important things to reach that goal because if you lose focus your not gonna get there!
I always think its important to have a break, go somewhere with your family or go see a friend or even just longing on the sofa watching films all day (me!) By the time you get back to work you'll be bursting at the seams with ideas!

I hope that these tips have helped you, please let me know!

America, Tennessee

To tell you the truth I've been contemplating how to write about my trip to America, Tennessee. Then I thought, I'm just going to jot down, like a diary, how I felt when I visited and what it was like so, here goes!

First Stop- Little Rock:
View from Little Rock hotel room
To be completely honest this was just an over night stop, the only parts I saw were the inside of Embassy Suite Hotels. Which really was not very exciting and the the view from my window which... was nothing special.

Second Stop - Nashville:
Broadway Street- Nashville
Grand Ole Opry
Since hearing that Taylor Swift's music career really began here in Nashville I have wanted to come. Country music is one of my favourite genres of music, so to see the place that really made it big, made me excited and I could't wait. When we arrived we had a look around Broadway Street, which is the main music area. To be honest I was disappointed, it was not what I expected. I of course knew that Nashville was a city, so I knew that there would be skyscrapers and city like feature to it, but somewhere deep down I thought that it would resemble New Orleans more, brick buildings, little town character and more like a large town, but no. Its a modern, up to date city with bright neon signs lining Broadway. The actual street is small with not much to see and as I'm under 21 I was not allowed inside the bars, that had live music. The live music though, you could still hear and appreciate outside. It was weird standing in the middle of Broadway street listening, because you had a mix of all of this country music coming from the bars! In the evening we had already planned to go to the Grand Ole Opry at the Ryman, which was quite amazing, all I could think was what a great honour it must be to play there... I guess I think that's when you know that you've really made it as a country music star!

We couldn't go to Nashville without seeing the Country Music Hall Of Fame Museum, so that's what we did! I saw everything! And I loved it, I can't really explain it but its a must see!

Last Stop on the list- Memphis... Graceland:
I wasn't a big fan of Elvis Presley before I went to Graceland and I'm still not a fan of his music now but I definetly have a different view of him. When we visited his house (Graceland) we had an audio tour, his house wasn't big compared to how much money he must of had. The upstairs of Elvis Presley's is not open to visitors but what we saw was unusual, he designed the décor in the rooms himself and lets just say I wouldn't have chosen it! Even if your not a fan of Elvis Presley or have absolutely no knowledge about him, its worth going! I actually felt quite touched by what he did, he was very generous to anyone that needed his help. Graceland is not a place which you should bypass.
